At the risk of this little blog of mine turning into confessions of a fabric-aholic, this entire entry is dedicated to the little ways we've been celebrating the arrival of fall here on Gehring Road. The weather has taken a decidedly colder turn... as I write this post, there is a cozy fire happening to my left, and a cozy new blanket from Pottery Barn on my right. When we've not been cozying up in front of the fire, we've been out and about enjoying the beauty of this season... and more importantly trying to tire out the dog. Sunday we headed up with lunch and said dog into the hills to get a bird's eye view of some of the foliage that made it through the many wind storms we've had so far this season. Here are just a few images from this weekend... they say it all.
::My two favorite leaf-peepers::
::Didn't I tell you it was bird's eye?::
I really had a hard time leaving on Sunday, we wanted to stay and explore a bit more, but are thinking about heading back again really soon. In other outside news, we're still getting raspberries! This is just a few that we picked after our little voyage out.
::Look how tired Kylie looks... ha!::
There's quite a bit of nesting and hunkering down for the season going on here as well. Gehring Road will host members of both our families for Thanksgiving, so there is some sewing going on for our dinner table. More on that tomorrow... Besides sewing and quilting (the walking foot was purchased and is lovely!) bits of cleaning and storing things away for the coming season are happening all around us. Garlic, onions and other elements of the garden have been transplanted into the potting boxes in back of the house... more on that soon also! Rob finally broke down and packed away my hammock which didn't see much use this summer as it rained many, many days. We've come to a determination on a couch for the living room and are loving the thought of more seating and less curved spine action in the not so distant future. Our future couch looks like this...
... sort of perfect and oh so right for long winter nights watching the fire with the ones I love to come home to here. There are so many reasons to love this season... some expected and cherished... the fairs, the last moments at the Farmer's Market, the apples... and some that seem to surprise each year - the low light from the sun in the fall, an early morning freeze... but I love the transitory nature of this time of year, the reasons to celebrate, the colors that are fleeting at best. But best of all, the assuredness of another season just around the bend. My hope is that you enjoy this time, and are having as much time nesting as we are.
