Kylie is busy guarding all of the candy in the house... we got a treat of our own... power is back! Happy Halloween to you! 

out again...

Here we sit... power was lost to us at around 4:00 pm yesterday and there are many, many trees down in our area. The clean up begins, though there was no damage to our home or to any loved ones. We are incredibly lucky. Barnes and Noble has become a bit of an internet refuge today. We would actually have Internet, even though we are without power, but the cable towers have also run out of power. It's a bit of a bummer that we can't be in our home, but last night felt so wonderful even despite our lack of connection to the grid. We even commented that it didn't really feel like we were out... I'm back to work tomorrow as the town in which I work was decidedly unscathed in this storm. We find ourselves looking at pictures of the damage in NY, NJ and along our own beautiful CT coast with much sadness. Hopefully you are well and warm and safe as we are. I'm surrounded by books and much love. Back soon. 

before the storm...

Well, here we are at the end of October and facing yet another storm around these parts. No school for me today, and likely tomorrow, which feels strange, as did this morning's very, very red sky. Lots of peeking out of windows, some Downton Abbey, some sewing and loads of watching the last of the leaves come down in the winds before the truly big gusts come. We're old pros at all of this now... the generator is at the ready, we will have water (warm water at that!) and we have the knowledge that we will be just fine in the end. In the meantime, it is comfort food and making sure all is right in our little world. We made this cake with this frosting and tried to mimic Alicia's beautiful cake decorating, because even if the lights go out, there will be cake... comfort indeed! fall... and a finish

And most certainly, it is Fall... despite what my banner (still...eek, my Photoshop Elements is causing me grief) says. We had our first deep freeze, the leaves changed then (mostly) fell, mums were bought, pumpkins have been picked out, the fire in the living room has been keeping us warm and I finally finished this quilt... can't wait until it is also keeping us warm! I'm thinking simple following the zigs and zags when quilting this. It feels very good to have this long-awaited top done... I've learned oh so much along the way with this one, just like these days of late and very fitting I think. Work has also most certainly calmed, thank you to those who posted sweet words and for those that emailed them. Some quiet days, a few days of sewing have done wonders. Happy belated October to you all, I hope to be here much more often in the coming days... and how good that also feels.
