Whites, tans and beige cottons and linens for my Strips and Bricks Quilt...
As I sit down to type this post, I'm a little surprised that it is Sunday... already... again... but there you have it. This week has a ton in store... grades due, a trip to NY with 100 sixteen year olds, the Junior prom and two quilts in progress happening. Such is life. Hopefully all will return with sanity and class in tack on when we're off to the city... that I resist the urge to run screaming to Purl (it will be their last day at their old, quaint location) and that a little bit of sewing happens before grades are due. Hmm... yeah probably not. Luckily vacation is a mere week away.
So I bought some linen/cotton blends along with some cottons for my Strips and Bricks Quilt... you know the quilt that I haven't stopped talking or thinking about for the past few posts. This will be my first experience working with linen/cotton in a quilt, though I've used it here and there and loved it. I bought some Kona Solids too to add to the muted quilt.
Those linens are sort of lovely, no? So I do love the original and Rita's take (RedPepperQuilts Blog) on the quilt and I love how both incorporated stripes. So I went into my stash a lookin' for some stripes and guess what? I didn't have a single one. How is that possible? So I remedied that by taking a trip to my local Quilt Shop. I can't say the ladies there are kind. I can't even say that I always like the fabric (they mostly carry batiks and moda) but I can say they have an unending supply of stripes... I bought some...... and have my eye on a bit of Joel Dewberry striped fabric to add to this mix. Today, I pulled some fabrics for the quilt top and hope that it keeps me busy during break. Many, many small squares to cut. Not my favorite, cutting fabric, but I'm looking forward to incorporating bits of color and line throughout.... and a little voile of course had to count as a stripe. So wish me luck, on the quilt front and the kid front, I think I'm going to need it this time. Will be back in a bit to blog about the yesterday's Chili adventures and the most delicious flank steak I've ever had. I'm off for now!
