My, my, how I have neglected this little blog space over the past few weeks. I have been trying, in vain, to figure out how exactly to keep all aspects of my life attended to... as I'm sure we all do. I promise to carve out even the smallest bit of time over the next few weeks to show you the many, many things we have going on here. Life is very full. I promise to not consider (ha! too easy!) the 100 analytical essays I took from my students (do I still do that to myself after seven years as a teacher?) and update this little blog of ours.
Thanksgiving flew by and I'm afraid lack of sleep and a myriad of projects to finish kept me from really savoring every second - remind me of this come Christmas. Rob hinted gently that I should probably plan projects like those completed for Thanksgiving in August... how right he is. As a novice sewer and sudden perfectionist (I scrutinize stitches... I confess), I'm learning how to juggle and finish... just slowly. So here are some highlights from our day.
...Our turkey came from Chapin Brook Farm, where Cooper the donkey lives... when we picked up the turkey, he nuzzled my face, it was a highlight...
Rob made these rustic dinner rolls, they were so delicious and so worth the waiting (3 rises!)
...A little variation on pumpkin pie, Rob's is a pumpkin chiffon pie with a walnut crust... I miss it...
This is the best apple pie I have ever eaten... it took 10 apples and had the most delicious crust...
...yes I did make the lace-work pumpkin... it was difficult, but really beautiful when lit...
...by far the worst project... bias-tape around the edges of a napkin... Molly's Tutorial was beautiful, my bias tape skills are not... this nearly unglued me...
...and the bias-taping in action... feel free to tell me what I'm doing wrong here...
...sweet little plates for dessert purchased at Pier 1... they have them in red, green and blue also!
...seating cards made from a beautiful linen I found at JoAnn's of all places... and the place-mats in action...
...favors again in the same linen, I forgot to take a picture of the sweet coasters I made they're from Last Minute Quilted Gifts and were really fun to make...
...that lovely centerpiece was sent by Rob's Mom Connie and matched everything perfectly... I love how simple yet festive the table looks (and felt, it was such a lovely day)... we opted for my Anthropologie milk glasses instead of wine glasses (not that the wine wasn't flowing!) because I always feel like wine glasses on a table makes it instantly too formal...
...the turkey was amazingly juicy and cooked up really quickly, making my last minute dash to the market for cheese and crackers totally unnecessary... phew...
So that was the day in pictures. What the pictures don't show are the lovely little moments in between all that eating. Laughter, four legged friends, snoozing by the fire, dishes, and many, many memories made. I hope your Thanksgiving was as lovely and friend filled as ours. Let the count-down to Christmas begin! Twenty-three days Amy!!
